Veteran striker Shefki Kuqi bagged a double as Oldham beat Crewe 3-1 to move into the Johnstone's Paint Trophy semi-finals.
Oldham went ahead after 12 minutes as Luca Scapuzzi saw his long-range shot clawed out by goalkeeper Steve Phillips, only for Kuqi to seize on the rebound for a six-yard tap-in. The League One side were well on top and hit the woodwork twice before half-time through Jean-Yves M'voto's header and dipping volley from Robbie Simpson. Simpson went close again, but Crewe levelled after 54 minutes when Antoni Sarcevic set up the dangerous Nick Powell for a sweetly-struck drive into the bottom corner from 18 yards. Oldham regained their lead only five minutes later as Tom Adeyemi blasted against the post and Kuqi followed up to head in from eight yards despite Dave Artell's attempt to clear. It was the former Finland international's 10th goal of the season. Italian forward Scapuzzi - on loan from Manchester City - fired a stylish third after 72 minutes thanks to a neat stepover and 12-yard shot inside the far post. Oldham had a series of chances to stretch their advantage, but their finishing let them down.
