Italian Serie A report: Sampdoria see off Parma

Sampdoria kept pace with third-placed Napoli with a 2-0 win at bottom side Parma, showing they have enough firepower even without their two imminent new attacking options.

After wrapping up the signing of Udinese forward Luis Muriel and with Samuel Eto'o set to join on Monday, it was Gonzalo Bergessio and Eder who ran the show at the Stadio Ennio Tardini.

Bergessio put them in front early in the second half before hitting the post just before Roberto Soriano scored Samp's second, giving manager Sinisa Mihajlovic three points and plenty to ponder when he has more attacking options in the coming weeks.

With Muriel's move from Udinese to Samp complete and Eto'o on the verge of joining the Blucerchiati, Mihajlovic's current forwards certainly had a point to prove ahead of the intensified competition.

Eder and Bergessio were the chosen ones, and they soon showed how much they were motivated by the new arrivals.

Both looked keen to get possession, with Eder sending in one of the first shots on Antonio Mirante's goal before Emiliano Viviano made a fine stop to deny Massimo Gobbi with Parma's first chance, coming as a swift reply.

Eder and Bergessio both then combined to create another opportunity as Samp showed no mercy on their struggling hosts.

The first half then concluded with an Eder free-kick which only just missed the target.

Bergessio gave Sampdoria a deserved lead early in the second half with Eder unsurprisingly the provider as the two Blucerchiati strikers took charge of matters.

Eder was denied again by Mirante before Soriano doubled the visitors' lead with 20 minutes remaining, opening his account for the season after Bergessio was denied a second by the post.

Former Genoa forward Raffaele Palladino wasted a chance to pull a goal back for a beleaguered Parma side, who were shoved even closer to the drop on Sunday.
