John Spicer crashed home a 52nd-minute winner to earn Notts County a 1-0 Carling Cup win at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.
Spicer picked his spot, rifling the ball into the top corner at Home Park, out of home goalkeeper Romain Larrieu's reach. Larrieu was one of five players recalled to the first team by Argyle manager Peter Reid following Saturday's 1-0 League One win at Southampton. County boss Craig Short made six changes to the side that lost 3-0 at home to Huddersfield and goalkeeper Stuart Nelson made a superb save to deny Argyle substitute Steve MacLean as he latched on to Bradley Wright-Phillips' through ball. Wright-Phillips came closest to opening the score in the first half, but fired wide from eight yards.
