Plymouth v Northampton preview
Friday 31 August 2012 13:24, UK
Team news for Saturday's League Two clash between Plymouth Argyle and Northampton at Home Park.
Plymouth will be hoping captain Darren Purse will be available. The Argyle defender missed the Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Burnley on Tuesday with a calf injury, and faces a race against time to prove his fitness before Saturday's game. Midfielder Paul Wotton was also absent at Turf Moor after manager Carl Fletcher opted to rest the 35-year-old, but he will be available to face the Cobblers. Summer signing Rhys Griffiths will play no part as he continues his recovering from a calf injury, and midfielder Jamie Lowry will also miss out as he is expected to be sidelined until late October with an ankle ligament injury. Fletcher has a number of options in attacking positions as the Devon club attempt to solve their goalscoring problems. Only Robbie Williams has got his name on the scoresheet this season, with strikers Matt Lecointe, Warren Feeney, Nick Chadwick, and Paris Cowan-Hall yet to find the back of the net so far this term. Alex MacDonald looks set to start up front after he returned to the club from Burnley on loan on Friday. Northampton boss Aidy Boothroyd is likely to make changes for his side's second game in the space of three days. As expected against Wolves in the Capital One Cup on Thursday night, teenager Dean Snedker took over in goal from on-loan Lee Nicholls who was once again unavailable as parent club Wigan do not want him cup-tied. New signing Danny East, who joined Town on Wednesday from Hull on a month-long loan, went straight into the side at right-back with John Johnson rested. Nicholls and Johnson are expected to return to the starting line-up in Devon. Boothroyd, whose side face a third match in the space of six days when they host MK Dons in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday, has the likes of Anthony Charles, Ishmel Demontagnac, Adebayo Akinfenwa, Henoc Mukendi, Lewis Wilson and Louis Moult available to come into the team. Striker Alex Nicholls was forced off at half-time against Wolves with an injury and he may miss out on Saturday.
