Mid-table Port Vale and Rotherham played out a 0-0 draw at a sun-drenched Vale Park in a typical end-of-season clash. Vale showed the greater hunger in a low key first-half as John McCombe and Kyle Perry both squandered decent opportunities. But Rotherham almost took a 31st minute lead when Drewe Broughton's header smashed against a post and ex-Vale man Micky Cummins fired the rebound too high. Cummins' unhappy afternoon was complete eight minutes into the second half when he was stretchered off with a knee injury and replaced by Danny Harrison. And the visitors finally began to build a head of steam as Vale's teenager goalkeeper Chris Martin raced from goal to make a fine save from Reuben Reid. Reid's pace and Broughton's hold up play were causing some problems for the home defence, but Rotherham were lacking a final touch. Both managers used all of their substitutions in a forlorn attempt to spice up the action and many supporters were making their way home well before the final whistle.
