Roma extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to seven games with a 2-1 victory over Bologna at Stadio Olimpico.

Roma moved back to within a point of fourth-placed AC Milan while Bologna remain in the relegation zone, three points adrift of safety.

Bologna started the brighter, with Roberto Soriano forcing Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen to tip his swerving drive over the crossbar after eight minutes. Olsen was alert to deny Soriano again from close range later on in the half, while the Sweden international stood up well to block Simone Edera.

The best chance of the first half fell to the impressive Soriano in added time, but the midfielder crashed an effort from 12 yards against the crossbar.

Roma rallied, though, and took the lead courtesy of a penalty from Aleksandar Kolarov in the 55th minute after Filip Helander brought down Stephan El Shaarawy in the box.

Andrea Poli almost brought Bologna level with a powerful volley from distance but Olsen did well to parry the ball away down low to his left.

Roma then doubled their lead in the 73rd minute when Federico Fazio lashed home on the volley at the back post from a Kolarov corner.
