Having slipped towards the drop zone in Serie A, Udinese had been hoping the clash would provide a distraction from their poor league campaign.

Philippe Mexes then doubled Roma's advantage with a header five minutes before half-time and Udinese were not able to respond.
Inter Milan beat Fiorentina 1-0 in the first leg of the other semi-final on Wednesday.
