Highlights of Sheffield Wednesday's 2-1 win at Rotherham in the Sky Bet Championship

Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri scored within five second-half minutes as Sheffield Wednesday won 2-1 at Rotherham to move within a point of the Sky Bet Championship's top six.

After a frenetic but goalless first half at the New York Stadium on Friday night, Joao tapped home from close range 30 seconds after the restart after Millers 'keeper Lee Camp parried Forestieri's shot into his path.

Forestieri added the second on 50 minutes after yet more slack defending, poking into the empty corner after Camp failed to hold on to another attempt on goal.

Tom Thorpe pulled a goal back deep into stoppage time but Rotherham's new boss Neil Redfearn remains winless from his first three games in charge.

Barry Bannan and Fernando Forestieri were delighted with their derby day victory

Redfearn insisted his new side had improved in Tuesday's draw with Reading but they struggled to match Wednesday's slick passing and high pressing for 90 minutes, eventually coming undone on 46 minutes.

Rotherham strikers Matt Derbyshire and Jonson Clarke-Harris could only test Kieran Westwood with speculative efforts and Wednesday grew stronger as the first period wore on.

A group of excited Sheffield Wednesday fans went head first over the advert boards as they tried to catch Barry Bannan's shirt

Midfielder Barry Bannan went close just before the break when he stole into the box and headed over Camp but onto the roof of the net, and Kieran Lee should have hit the target from a Joao cut-back on the stroke of half-time.

But Wednesday and Joao had the reward for their endeavour just seconds into the second half when Forestieri robbed Danny Collins of possession and shot low towards the far corner, with Camp pushing the ball to Joao's feet from five yards out.

Forestieri grabbed his third of the season when a deep corner to the back post was headed at goal but Camp failed to hold on, and Joao could have had another when he flicked Forestieri's cross over the bar.

Joao was eventually substituted after he lost a tooth, having been caught by a trailing arm, and the Portugal Under-21 international was distraught about his new gap on the Wednesday bench.

Sheffield Wednesday's Joao loses his tooth in a clash with Rotherham's Chris Maguire and he wasn't happy!

Millers substitute Chris Maguire was also caught by what appeared to be a deliberate elbow from Ross Wallace, who was not penalised, and almost thrust his side back into the game.

Two late free-kicks fashioned chances at goal, with Jordan Bowery firing wide, and then a third allowed Thorpe to fire in first time four minutes into added time.
