Midfielder scores from Bebe's cross to beat Shanghai Shenhua

Shinji Kagawa produced an impressive display and scored the winner as Manchester United beat Shanghai Shenhua 1-0 in China. Kagawa netted from close range midway through the second half - slotting home via a deflection after excellent work from substitute Bebe down the left flank. Shenhua were without star names Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka in Shanghai and set out to stifle United with some success before the break. Nick Powell did have the chance to open the scoring but scuffed wide after Davide Petrucci had shown great vision to find him. At the other end, Joel Griffiths found himself clean through only for Anders Lindegaard to produce a brilliant save. But the introduction of Bebe and Javier Hernandez after the interval gave Sir Alex Ferguson's side more urgency and both men linked up well with the increasingly influential Kagawa. And it was no surprise when the former Borussia Dortmund man bagged the winning goal. All that remained was for the enthusiastic crowd to get a glimpse of Paul Scholes as he came off the bench to showcase his skills - and robust tackling - in a brief cameo. The victory saw United awarded the Chevrolet China Cup - but Ferguson will be targeting more prestigious silverware if his new Japanese signing can carry this form into the new season.
