Sheffield Wednesday v Wolves preview: Championship clash live on Sky Sports Football
Friday 15 December 2017 19:43, UK
Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal will serve a touchline ban in the Sky Bet Championship clash with Wolves.
Wednesday pair Jack Hunt and Steven Fletcher are both hoping to recover from minor injury problems after missing the 3-1 defeat by Norwich. Centre-half Tom Lees remains unavailable and will miss the Christmas fixture schedule following recent groin surgery.
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo must decide whether to freshen up his team following last weekend's frustrating home goalless draw against strugglers Sunderland, which ended a run of six straight Championship wins. Ruben Neves returned from suspension to retake his place in midfield, with Alfred N'Diaye having to settle for a place back on the bench.
Portuguese playmaker Helder Costa is another in contention as Wolves look to extend their lead at the top of the table. Defender Phil Ofosu-Ayeh is recovering from ankle surgery, while goalkeeper Carl Ikeme continues his battle against leukaemia.
Opta stats
Sheffield Wednesday have won only one of their last 18 home matches against Wolves in all competitions (D9 L8).
Wolves have kept clean sheets in four of their last five league visits to Hillsborough, but lost the other match 4-1 in December 2015.
Fernando Forestieri has had a hand in four goals in his last four league starts against Wolves (three goals, one assist).
Wolves have won their last three away league games without conceding in any - they have never won four in a row away from home without conceding in their entire history.
Sheffield Wednesday have won six of their last nine league games played on a Friday (D1 L2), while Wolves have lost four of their last five (W1).
Should Wolves win this game, they will reach the 50-point mark in the Championship in just 22 games, the fastest since Wolves themselves did so in 2008/09 on their way to securing the title.
Prutton's prediction
It's getting towards crunch time for Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday now. The Owls have made the play-offs in the past two seasons, but have shown few signs so far this campaign of reaching those heights again.
Wolves, meanwhile, suffered a surprising blip at home to Sunderland last week in a game many expected for them to win comfortably. But they generally bounce straight back from a blip and I think they'll have too much here.
David Prutton predicts: 1-2 with Diogo Jota to score first (22/1 with Sky Bet)
