Shrewsbury's top-scorer Grant Holt missed the best chance of the game on the stroke of half-time when be broke clear but scuffed his shot straight at Barry Roche. Two moments of uncertainty from home goalkeeper Luke Daniels with a missed punch followed up by a mis-timed dive at the feet of Rene Howe provided Morecambe with their best moment but they were unable to break the deadlock. Holt had a lob tipped over the bar after the break while the home side also felt they had two reasonable penalty appeals turned down. First, substitute Richard Walker was sandwiched between David Artell and Jim Bentley before Holt appeared to be bundled off the ball by Bentley. Wayne Curtis and Howe could have nicked it late on for Morecambe but neither were unable to break the deadlock.
