The home side, playing in their 600th regular season match got back on level terms in the 16th minute when Dominic Dwyer latched onto Benny Feilhaber's cross.

Minutes later, the visitors were back in front as Fernando Aristeguieta fired in his third goal of the season.

Peter Vermes’ side pushed forward in search of an equaliser in the second-half but they missed a host of chances with Servando Carrasco firing over the bar before Seth Sinovic dragged his shot wide.

Just as the hosts thought it might not be their day, Jalil Anibaba popped up with 91st minute equaliser.

However, the scoring was not finished and Sporting snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Krisztian Nemeth beat Union keeper Rais M’Bohli to score the club's 1000th goal in all competitions to send his side fourth in the Western Conference.
