Stockport were consigned to relegation after suffering a 3-1 home defeat to Yeovil.
The Hatters' fate was finally sealed as Terry Skiverton's side coasted to a comfortable win at Edgeley Park to end Stockport's two-year stay in the third tier.
The Glovers were in total command in the first half and raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of goals from Dean Bowditch and Gavin Williams. Williams added a third in the second half and although George Donnelly pulled a goal back it was scant consolation for Gary Ablett's side.
Gavin Tomlin had already gone close before the visitors scored 21 minutes in when Andy Welsh's free-kick was not cleared and Bowditch was left with time and space to smash home clinically from 12 yards.
Their lead was doubled 11 minutes later as more indecision in the Stockport defence let in Williams and he slotted home a neat half-volley and the Glovers' victory was finally wrapped up in the 74th minute when Aidan Downes crossed from the left and Williams scored with a fine glancing header
Donnelly's consolation from close range eight minutes from time proved to be too little, too late for Stockport.
