Pratley denied by the post

Swansea City maintained their push for a play-off spot after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home by Coventry City. Paulo Sousa's side, who have now lost only twice in the past 21 Championship games, came closest to scoring when Darren Pratley hit the post in the first half. After the interval, chances were similarly scarce, with Aron Gunnarsson having a decent opportunity for Coventry. Both sides started cagily and chances were at a premium in the opening 10 minutes, with a Federico Bessone corner which was easily collected by Keiren Westwood the best moment of a slow start. Swansea then had a double opportunity to open the scoring. Bessone's shot was blocked by a lunging Richard Wood and Pratley could only smash the ball against the upright from the rebound. David Bell engineered a chance at the opposite end but his low drive went just the wrong side of Dorus De Vries' post. Carl Baker almost marked his first start for Coventry with a goal when he headed Bell's delivery at goal but De Vries got down well to save.

Enthusiastic run

Nathan Dyer came close to scoring on the stroke of half-time but, after he beat two men to get into the area, his effort flew wide. Both sides made changes at half-time with Joe Allen replacing Jordi Lopez for the Swans and Leon Barnett coming on for James McPake. Six minutes after the break Pratley made a strong break from the Swans midfield but his long-range effort failed to match the enthusiastic run and ballooned into the crowd. Gunnarsson tried to make something happen for the visitors when he curled the ball round De Vries from outside the area but the ball spun wide of the post. The Sky Blues were defending stoutly as Swansea started to press forward, with Wood making a number of interceptions as Andrea Orlandi and Thomas Butler both tried to play in Gorka Pintado. The hosts were then denied a good penalty shout when substitute Gary Deegan lunged in on debutant Shefki uqi but the referee signalled for a corner. From the resulting set-piece, the ball fell to Allen on the edge of the area and his fierce shot was well saved by Westwood.
