Town's automatic promotion hopes suffer a blow

Swindon Town salvaged a point in the third minute of injury time against Exeter City, although a 1-1 draw dented their automatic promotion hopes. The Robins could have gone second in the League One table above Millwall and Leeds with a win but a well-taken James Dunne strike four minutes before half-time looked to have denied them at the County Ground, although a late Matt Taylor own goal left the tie in a stalemate. Dunne's goal was expertly taken as he latched on to a Ryan Taylor ball in from the left to take it past a defender and slot coolly into the corner past David Lucas. It proved to be Exeter's only effort on target in the entire game and they had to weather a barrage of second-half pressure to come out with something. Billy Paynter clipped the top of the crossbar with a header in the 55th minute before Taylor managed to clear a stinging Simon Ferry volley off the line - the Grecians also have goalkeeper Paul Jones to thank after he produced an excellent save to tip a Paynter effort wide of the post on 68 minutes. But the Robins snatched a late point in added time as Jon-Paul McGovern poked the ball across goal, and substitute Vincent Pericard diverted it onto Taylor who put through his own net from close range.
