Frei and Emeghara on target for Group A leaders

Switzerland made it two wins from two at the U21 European Championship with a 2-0 victory over Iceland on Tuesday. A comfortable success, achieved courtesy of goals from Fabian Frei and Innocent Emeghara, means the Swiss remain top of Group A. The opening goal of the game on a windy afternoon in Aalborg arrived after just 58 seconds, as the Swiss burst out of the blocks. Highly-rated playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri, who notched a spectacular winner against hosts Denmark on Saturday, was once again the man to pull the strings for Pierluigi Tami's side. It was from his clever through-ball that Frei was able to race clear down the right flank and calmly slot past Haraldur Bjornsson.

    Stinging

The Icelandic keeper was called into action again shortly afterwards, as he was forced to beat away a stinging drive from Shaqiri. Gylfi Sigurdsson offered a timely reminder to the Swiss that they could not afford to relax, with a testing effort from 25 yards midway through the first half, as Iceland looked to build on a qualification campaign which saw them notch 33 times in 10 games. It was, however, to be the Swiss who doubled their lead five minutes before the interval as Bjornsson saw a shot from Emeghara loop agonisingly into the back of his net despite getting a foot to the ball. Iceland, aware that they found themselves standing on the brink of elimination, attempted to raise their game after the interval but could only muster a collection of half-chances. Kolbeinn Sigthorsson came closest to offering them a lifeline, but he saw a goal-bound attempt hacked off the line by Frei.
