Danilo D'Ambrosio brought Torino's six-game winless run to an end with the only goal of the game to see off lowly Bologna. The defender headed home Mario Santana's cross from close range on 65 minutes and while Bologna came close to an equaliser the hosts held on for an overdue three points. Torino had not won in any competition since they ran riot in a 5-1 win over Atalanta in September and this success lifted them clear of a relegation zone Bologna remained entrenched in. The visitors were first to threaten when Italy international Alessandro Diamanti latched onto a weak clearance before firing his effort wide. Torino took charge for the remainder of the half albeit without finding the net. They were left wondering how they were not 1-0 up on 14 minutes, however, when Federico Agliardi producing a stunning save after Gianluca Sansone got just enough of a deflection on Alessio Cerci's delivery. Cerci then blasted high when trying his luck from distance before a neat one-two between Rolando Bianchi and Gianluca Sansone ended with the skipper shooting just over the crossbar. Bologna almost stole ahead five minutes after half-time when their veteran Italy striker Alberto Gilardino revealed his threat for the first time. The 30-year-old, who has won 47 Azzurri caps, was inches wide when he met Saphir Taider's cross. Torino went ahead after 65 minutes through D'Ambrosio when Santana picked him out to head into the bottom-right corner from close range. Bologna, two points from safety at the start of the day, were unlucky not to pull back the lead as they twice went agonisingly close in the final 25 minutes. Diamanti fizzed a shot from just outside the area narrowly past the left-hand post on 71 minutes before Gilardino saw his volley sneak past the woodwork too.
