Udinese will be glad to see the back of Turin this season after losing in the Piedmont city for the second time.

Their former forward Fabio Quagliarella did the damage as Torino beat the high-flyers 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to inflict only the second defeat on Andrea Stramaccioni's side this season, the other a 2-0 loss to city rivals Juventus.

Quagliarella scored his fourth goal in as many Serie A games on the hour mark, but chose not to celebrate out of respect for his former club.

Udinese were fourth coming into the game with just one defeat all season to Juventus, who they were hoping to narrow the gap with an away win.

Cyril Thereau wasted their first chance in the 14th minute with his header just going wide.

That was only a rare moment of danger at either end with the next coming over 20 minutes later when Giuseppe Vives struck the post at the other end.

With Amauri again lacking confidence as he continued to search for his first goal of the season, and first for the Granata, it was up to Quagliarella to lead Torino's attacks.

Bruno Peres was doing all he could to feed him with cross after cross from the right, where he was proving to be a worthy deputy to the rested Matteo Darmian.

It was from one of his crosses that Vives headed on for Quagliarella to head in his fifth goal in as many games, including his winner in the Europa League against Copenhagen.

Thereau wasted a glorious chance to level for Udinese when he volleyed over from eight yards out while Vives was then denied by Orestis Karnezis at the other end.

Torino held on to record only their second win of the season to move away from the bottom three.
