On-loan striker nets twice to inspire Imps

Davide Somma scored twice to take his tally to five goals in as many games as Lincoln extended their unbeaten run with a 3-2 win over Torquay. The South African, on loan from Leeds, opened the scoring after nine minutes with a clinical finish from close range after United failed to effectively deal with Steve Lennon's corner from the right. United restored parity 20 minutes later when home skipper Nicky Wroe returned passes with recalled winger Mustapha Carayol, who teed up Wroe to let fly from the edge of the box and beat Rob Burch with a goal-bound shot that took a deflection off Elliot Benyon's shoulder. Somma was not done and the Imps regained their lead after 53 minutes when the striker swept down the left and cut the ball back for Cian Hughton to fire home the visitors' second goal. Somma claimed his second of the game by rounding home keeper Scott Bevan in the 57th minute after central defender Mark Ellis slipped while trying to prevent Moses Swaibu's through ball. Chris Zebroski reduced the deficit in the 76th minute when he latched on to a long through ball before tucking the ball away under Burch. And the Gulls almost levelled in stoppage time when substitute Kevin Nicholson was denied by Burch before Mustapha Carayol shot inches wide to end Torquay's six-match unbeaten streak.
