Turkish side came from behind to muster a point at home

Lille threw away a first-half lead to settle for a 1-1 draw against Trabzonspor in Group B of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The French side went ahead at Huseyin Avni Aker on the half hour mark when Moussa Sow struck home from close range and could have gone 2-0 up had Florent Balmont's header gone in instead of hitting the Trabzonspor crossbar. However, the Turkish team eventually found the equaliser in front of their own supporters, and it came with just 15 minutes left on the clock when Gustavo Colman blasted home a penalty to maintain their position at the top of the group.

Hosts struggle

Trabzonspor, only in the tournament because fellow Turkish club Fenerbahce had been kicked out due to match-fixing allegations, came into the game on the back of a memorable 1-0 win over Inter Milan at San Siro on Matchday One. However, they struggled in the first half. Didier Zokora had their only chance before the break and the midfielder's long-range effort was well off target. Lille looked the more likely scorers before the interval and after Eden Hazard had tried his luck in the 29th minute, they took the lead with their first shot on goal. David Rozehnal's ball was not cut out by Marek Cech and Sow was able to net from a tight angle through the legs of goalkeeper Tolga Zengin. The striker was also on target in the 2-2 home draw against CSKA Moscow a fortnight back. It was nearly 2-0 four minutes later when Hazard squared for Sow but the Senegal international was just unable to make contact to the relief of the home side. The half finished on a sour note when Cech was carried off on a stretcher following a reckless challenge by Lille midfielder Joe Cole, who was booked.
Second half action
Cech returned for the second half and it was the home side who threatened first with Serkan Balci shooting high and wide twice in as many minutes. Soon after Sow came close to a second goal for the visitors, outmuscling defender Giray Kacar but shooting just wide of the far post. An open start to the second half continued when Colman saw a shot from the edge of the penalty area saved low down by Mickael Landreau. At the other end, Cole should have done better than fire at Zengin when unmarked seven yards from goal in the 54th minute. Then three minutes after the hour mark Eden Hazard's corner was flicked on by Balmont's head and the ball rose steeply to clip the top of the hosts' crossbar. Adrian saw a left-foot shot deflected wide in the 71st for a corner which came to nothing, as the hosts sought an equaliser. And they got it in the 75th minute, after Mathieu Debuchy handled Paulo Henrique's cross inside the penalty area. Landreau got a hand to the resulting spot-kick but could not keep it out and the Turkish side had their point.
