Davies sends Tranmere through

Ben Davies was the hero as Tranmere booked their place in the third round of the JPT with a 5-4 penalty win over Carlisle.

Rovers had been on track for victory after Max Power's first-half goal before Brad Potts equalised after 76 minutes. Both teams had chances to win it after the first four penalties were successfully scored and Steven Rigg saw his effort saved by Peter Brezovan. First Tranmere's Danny Holmes sent his spot-kick wide before Patrick Brough saw his effort saved for Carlisle and Davies held his nerve. Carlisle started the brighter with Rigg and Billy Paynter heading off target but Rovers took the lead in the 40th minute when Jason Koumas' free-kick was parried by Dan Hanford only as far as Power who slotted home. The visitors did get their equaliser when Rigg took advantage of a slip by Jake Kirby to play in Potts to hammer home before Rigg then slipped up himself in the final shootout.
