Tranmere put an end to a poor run of home results as they beat a resilient Cheltenham 2-0 at Prenton Park.
The breakthrough came after 69 minutes when Bas Savage headed home at the far post from a Chris Shuker cross.
The goal came while the visitors were down to 10 men as James Wesolowski received medical treatment with the Robins having used all their substitutes.
Shuker then hit a post after 87 minutes before setting up Edrissa Sonko to head in a second two minutes later.
The best chance in a poor first-half fell to Cheltenham but a close range header by Andy Lindegaard was turned for a corner by keeper Danny Coyne.
The Merseysiders piled on the pressure after the break though, and Scott Brown in the visiting goal did well to turn away a deflected shot by Andy Taylor.
