Tranmere claim battling point

Tranmere held off promotion contenders Milton Keynes Dons after a bruising clash which finished 1-1 at Prenton Park. Neither side posed a serious attacking threat in a poor first half which developed into a midfield tussle. The only clear chance of the opening 45 minutes came shortly before the break when Dons goalkeeper Willy Gueret turned an angled Chris Shuker shot away for a corner. Nine minutes into the second half Miguel Llera headed wide for the Dons following a free-kick. The visitors then went ahead from the penalty spot after 74 minutes. Aaron Wilbraham was tripped in the area by Antony Kay and Peter Leven blasted the resulting spot-kick past Rovers keeper John Achterberg. Tranmere made three changes after 80 minutes and were rewarded two minutes later when one of the substitutes Terry Gornell flicked the ball home from close range after Kay had headed on a Shuker corner.
