Newport produced the perfect response to last weekend's trashing at home to Yeovil by securing a hard fought 1-0 victory against Tranmere at Prenton Park.

The visitors could be forgiven for starting the match nervously on the back of a 6-0 home humiliation last time out but there was little evidence of that capitulation here as they scored on their first attack.
