The hosts enjoyed the better of the chances throughout a disappointing contest, but were unable to capitalise on their superiority. Schalke would have expected to have fared better against a side yet to pick up their first win of the season, but Felix Magath's team were not at their best. Schalke therefore go top for now, with seven points taken from their three games so far. Hoffenheim double their tally for the season with the stalemate on home soil, but they could slip back into the bottom three if weekend results go against them.
