Paul Lewis struck in the third minute of stoppage time to rescue a 1-1 draw for Cambridge at Wycombe as the hosts' promotion hopes suffered another blow.

Wycombe went ahead in the fourth of nine minutes of first-half injury time, as Akinfenwa flicked Brown's deep free-kick out of the reaches of David Forde.

Cambridge defender George Taft was then left with his heart in his mouth, as his sliced attempted clearance from Luke O'Nien's cross came back off his own post.

Forde then denied Akinfenwa a second goal with his feet after Nathan Tyson had skinned Greg Taylor down the left wing before the U's provided a dramatic late twist.
