Promotion rivals share the spoils in lunchtime kick-off

Shrewsbury Town came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with League Two promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday lunchtime. The share of the spoils - after a superb, first-half strike from Gary Holt was cancelled out by a 75th minute Ben Davies header - moves Wycombe third in the table, while Shrewsbury continue to occupy the final spot in the play-off places. Gary Holt, 36, opened the scoring in the 29th minute as he was offered too much time and space by Shrewsbury's Kevin Langmead and the midfielder duly curled in from 20 yards. Shrewsbury had their chances and should have been level before half-time but for some wayward finishing from the in-form Grant Holt and left-sided midfielder Davies. Five minutes after the interval, Grant Holt again had the opportunity to restore parity for Paul Simpson's side but his header was tipped over by Wycombe goalkeeper Jamie Young. Grant Holt was dominating the home defence aerially and he again wasted a headed opening with just over 20 minutes remaining as Shrewsbury - who had drawn their three previous matches - looked to salvage a point. However, the visitors had their equaliser with 15 minutes remaining as Davies atoned for his previous misses when superbly heading in substitute Steven Leslie's cross to extend Wycombe's winless run to five games.
