Chasing the game with Rotherham leading at Fratton Park on Sunday in their Sky Bet League One encounter, Pitman did his utmost to keep the ball in as it ran towards the touchline, but failed to do so, conceding a throw in.
However, on the wet pitch, Pitman couldn't help but follow through over the touchline, and completely took out Kennedy, who was warming up as a substitute.
The match didn't end well for Pompey, who slipped to their second defeat of the season, while Rotherham secured a first success of the campaign - their first on the road in 27.
