Lee Johnson described the Lee Tomlin goal that capped Bristol City's 4-0 win over Huddersfield as "a touch of genius".

And the Robins head coach was equally delighted with his team's performance in their final home game of a difficult Sky Bet Championship campaign, which is ending on a note of high optimism.

Jonathan Kodjia's double, taking his tally for the season to 20, and a Joe Bryan strike had already put City out of sight before Tomlin produced Ashton Gate's goal of the season.

Accepting a Scott Golbourne pass on the edge of the box, the on-loan forward from Bournemouth took one touch with his right foot to impudently lift the ball over his marker and a second touch to bury it in the roof of the net with an unstoppable left-footed volley.

"The goal had a touch of genius about it," said Johnson. "We see Lee do that sort of thing in training, but it is another thing to do it in a game.

"It was the perfect final home game for us. Some of our football and the goals we scored would have delighted any coach.

"Jonathan Kodjia deserves huge credit for scoring 20 goals in his first season of English football. We had him on penalties today because we wanted him to get to that figure, but he didn't need one.

"It was great for me to introduce Zak Vyner and George Dowling as substitutes and at one stage we had five academy products on the field.

"These are exciting times here and today was a great advert for our club, with the supporters and the players showing all that is best about it."

Kodjia shot the hosts in front on 44 minutes. Golbourne's pass was flicked on first-time by Bryan on the left and the striker was able to advance unchallenged into the Huddersfield box before drilling an angled shot past Jed Steer.

It was 2-0 on 64 minutes when Bryan won the ball on the edge of the Huddersfield box and moved forward to hold off a challenge from Mark Hudson and fire home a left-footed drive.

Huddersfield then caved in as Kodjia strode forward to send a sweet right-footed strike past Steer from 25 yards before Tomlin came up with an even better strike.

Huddersfield boss David Wagner admitted: "It was the worst performance of the season. We were weak defensively and did not have the right balance.

"The first 25 minutes was okay, but after that it was not a good day. Every player should have his own motivation and I don't think that was the problem.

"We have shown in the past that the squad has a good fighting attitude, but it wasn't evident today.

"The players have put themselves under pressure for the last game of the season because we need a reaction to what happened today.

"They played more like individuals and not as a team."
