Etienne Capoue signs Watford contract extension until 2022

Etienne Capoue of Watford celebrates after scoring his sides third goal against Bristol City

Etienne Capoue has signed a contract extension at Watford until the summer of 2022.

The Frenchman arrived at Vicarage Road from Tottenham in 2015 for around £6m and has since featured 95 times for Watford, scoring 10 goals.

The midfielder was a target for Italian club Fiorentina during the January transfer window, according to Sky in Italy, while reports had suggested former boss Walter Mazzarri was keen to reunite with Capoue at current club Torino.

Spanish side Leganes were also understood to be interested in the 29-year-old during the winter window.

Capoue struggled for first-team football under former head coach Marco Silva, starting only five of the ten games he was selected for.

But he has since become a mainstay under new boss Javi Gracia - starting all four of the Premier League games following the Spaniard's arrival in late January.
