Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is relishing extra time to prepare for title challenge

Mauricio Pochettino Manager of Tottenham Hotspur looks on

Mauricio Pochettino is relishing the prospect of more preparation time ahead of Tottenham's final six games of the Premier League season.

The Spurs boss only had one day to prepare with his entire squad ahead of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Anfield, with a number of players returning from international duty late in the week.

That result saw them hand the advantage to Leicester, who went on to defeat Southampton 1-0 on Super Sunday.

But, ahead of this weekend's Super Sunday clash against Manchester United, Pochettino will have eight days to get things right, and that is something that pleases Tottenham's manager.

"In football, you always need to be ready for the next game. Now we have a few days to recover and try to prepare for United," he told Tottenham's official website.

"It's important because we only really had one day to prepare for Liverpool. International weeks can be difficult - 90 per cent of the players are away but now we have six games left in six weeks, and time to prepare the players."

It has been a busy season for Pochettino's side, following their run to the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Spurs head coach made seven changes to his team for the first leg in Germany, resting Eric Dier and leaving leading scorer Harry Kane on the bench, along with Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela. Spurs lost the game 3-0, effectively killing off their hopes of progression to the quarter-finals before the return leg in London.

But, Pochettino has gotten over their European elimination, and is now grateful for the extra preparation time as his side look to reduce Leicester's seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

"We haven't had many clear weeks this season. We've had a lot of midweek games but now we have time to prepare. We will fight until the end of the season."
