Manager puts pressure on Messi to perform

Under pressure Argentina manager Diego Maradona will be looking to one of the world's best players to inspire his team to victory against Brazil. The former attacking midfielder, a legend for his exploits on the field, has not had the same success as manager. With people inside and outside Argentina unsure about his credentials, Maradona is looking to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to ease the pressure on his manager in Sunday's crucial World Cup qualifier. Despite his brilliant form at club level, Messi has yet to have an impact for the national team. Maradona told the Mirror: "Messi has to become a man suddenly, he can no longer be the kid with promise, and he's showing it. "He's fast, concentrated, totally committed; he knows the chance he has. "We've been heaping responsibility on to him. Since I've been coaching Messi, since I've been watching him (train), this has been his best week." Argentina lie fourth in their 10-nation World Cup qualifying group, five points adrift of leaders Brazil. Although they are still on course for automatic qualification, an Argentina loss could see them reeled in by Ecuador and Uruguay with three matches to play.
