Lester too good for Bees

Spireites make perfect start

A Jack Lester double gave Chesterfield all three points as they came from behind to beat Barnet 3-1 at Underhill. Barnet took the lead in bizarre fashion after just six minutes as Ashley Carew's shot from just inside his own half sailed over the head of Spireites' debutant goalkeeper and ex-Manchester United trainee Tommy Lee. A minute before the break, Lester, Chesterfield's top scorer last season, had the ball in the back of the net but his effort was ruled out for a foul on Joe Devera. But Lester made amends in the 55th minute - beating his man and firing low beyond Lee Harrison to equalise. The prolific Spireites striker then gave the visitors the lead five minutes later as he latched on to a loose ball before chipping Harrison from the edge of the box. And Jamie Ward put the result beyond doubt in the 78th minute when he capitalised on a defensive mix up to slot home.
