Bernardo Silva struck twice in the second half as Monaco moved up to third in Ligue 1 with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Caen at Stade Michel d'Ornano on Friday night.

Anthony Martial opened the scoring for the visitors on the half-hour mark before young midfielder Bernardo struck after 62 minutes and again six minutes from time as Monaco extended their unbeaten run to eight league games.

The three points lifted Leonardo Jardim's men up a spot and above Marseille into third ahead of the rest of the weekend action, while the defeat leaves Caen in 12th, just six points above the relegation zone with six matches remaining.

The hosts started strongly and could have taken an early lead had Julien Feret's long-range effort not been cleared by Ricardo Carvalho.

Monaco began to dominate shortly after and Joao Moutinho led an excellent counter-attack on the left before finding Martial to the right of the box, but his effort was deflected away by Emmanuel Imorou.

Midway through the first half, the away side came forward again as Bernardo picked up a great ball from Moutinho 25 yards out and tested Remy Vercoutre, but the goalkeeper was equal to the shot.

Monaco's pressure paid off with a beautiful team goal after 30 minutes. Jeremy Toulalan's cross from the left channel found Yannick Carrasco inside the 18-yard box and he took on and beat Dennis Appiah before putting in a neat pass for Martial, who slotted home for the opener.

Ten minutes before the break, Caen searched for an equaliser as Feret laid the ball off to Emiliano Sana on the right of the box but Croatia stopper Danijel Subasic was well placed to clear the ball.

It was a one-sided affair after the break as the visitors dominated the full 45 minutes, and came close with efforts from both Bernardo and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco before the former got on the scoresheet.

Just after the hour mark, Toulalan's corner from the right found Bernardo in the penalty box and the 20-year-old slotted the ball between Caen defender Nicolas Seube's legs to fool Vercoutre and make it two.

Bernardo, who made his senior Portugal debut last month, added the gloss after 84 minutes as Martial set him up. Collecting Moutinho's pass from the right, Martial raced towards the Caen goal and delivered a great cross for Bernardo to tap home their third from six yards out.
