Chicago Fire 2-1 FC Dallas: Nemanja Nikolic and David Accam secure win
Friday 26 May 2017 09:05, UK
Chicago Fire recorded their fourth straight MLS win with a 2-1 victory against FC Dallas on Thursday.
All the goals were scored in the opening nine minutes as Chicago moved to within two points of Eastern Conference leaders Toronto.
Nemanja Nikolic gave Chicago a third-minute lead, with Bastian Schweinsteiger involved in the build-up.
The lead lasted just three minutes as Roland Lamah slotted home, but David Accam soon restored Chicago's lead.
The hosts could have added the gloss with a late goal but Nikolic's stoppage-time penalty was saved by Chris Seitz.
"We are shaping our style in a way we've always wanted," said head coach Veljko Paunovic afterwards. "We are becoming a mature team, with a strong character and a very strong team in terms of having a very good locker room.
"The atmosphere was fantastic after the game inside, obviously [we have] 24 points, we still have a lot to improve and we will improve, but I think we are managing the season the way we would like to have the progression."
