Roberts free-kick enough to bag three points

Doncaster have closed to within two points of second-placed Carlisle United in League One with a 1-0 success over Nottingham Forest. The South Yorkshire side had gone three games without a win, while a win for Forest would have seen Colin Calderwood's men cement their play-off position. However, it was Doncaster who emerged with the crucial three-point haul courtesy of Gareth Roberts' 74th minute free-kick. Sean O'Driscoll's Rovers dominated the first half of proceedings, although the League One high-flyers were unable to break down Forest. The deadlock was finally broken late on when Roberts' precise free-kick flew under Forest's wall and into the net off Paul Smith's near post. Doncaster had chances to put the game to bed, although it mattered not as Rovers hung on for the vital three points, reviving their automatic promotion hopes in the process.
