Highlights from New York's home defeat against Orlando City in MLS

Patrick Vieira suffered his first defeat as New York City boss as his side were beaten 1-0 at home by Orlando City.

The former Arsenal and France midfielder, in his first job as manager, had taken four points from the opening two games of the MLS season, but his side were undone by Cyle Larin's early strike.

A David Villa brace helped his side to a 5-3 win over Orlando last July, but this time the home team fell behind after six minutes when Larin added to his collection of goals against New York.

The Canada international, who scored five times against New York last season, headed home from close range when Josh Saunders was unable to palm Rafael Ramos's cross far enough away from the danger area.

Tommy McNamara twice went close to hitting back within a minute of that Orlando goal with two quick-fire shots from an acute angle, and Mix Diskerud would have profited from a deep corner by Andrea Pirlo after 17 minutes, but for a fine save by Joe Bendik.

New York wrestled control of the midfield in the remainder of the first half, showing the perfect reaction to falling behind early, however, a combination of wayward finishing and good goalkeeping prevented them from drawing level.

This increased pressure nearly resulted in a deserved equaliser just before the hour-mark when Diskerud was denied by another excellent stop from Bendik, after a neat reverse pass by Villa, before Tony Taylor shot wide when he really ought to have scored with a volley at the back post.
