Kevin Ellison continued to haunt Newport as he came off the bench to net his sixth goal against County and earn battling Morecambe a 1-1 draw.
The 39-year-old made the most of a gilt-edged chance gifted to him by a terrible defensive gaffe by Tyler Forbes that left him free inside the home area. He took his time before stroking home past Joe Day to level the scores in the 77th minute.
Padraig Amond gave Newport the lead when he headed home after a mere 27 seconds at Rodney Parade.
Barry Roche in the Morecambe goal had already saved a Robbie Willmott pile-driver before the ball bounced in front of goal and Amond converted.
It was just the start that County needed and put them on course to notch their first win at home over the Lancashire club since returning to the English Football League in 2013.
But Ellison put paid to those plans with his latest success against County, who missed the chance to put more pressure on the top three in League Two.
