New signing named Huddersfield's club captain

Chris Lucketti claims Huddersfield Town are the only League One club he was prepared to leave Sheffield United for.

The veteran defender has signed a two-year contract with Huddersfield and has been named club captain for the coming season.

He was unsure about dropping down a division from the Championship, but could not reject the chance to rejoin the Terriers for a second spell.

"Obviously I'm delighted to be back - I can't stress that enough," the 36-year-old told the club's official website.

Appeal

"I was unsure whether I wanted to drop down to League One - until I knew Huddersfield were in for me. I don't think I'd be playing in this division if it wasn't for this club.

"As soon as I heard of the interest I knew it was right. I've known the gaffer (Stan Ternent) and Ronnie (Jepson) for over 10 years now and I have a great relationship with them both. That certainly added to the appeal of the club.

"Despite all that, I've not come back to just to see out another couple of years. You can speak to a lot of people and you hear about the big strides the club is making in order to get promotion this year.

"I see that as a challenge for me and the rest of the squad. Getting this club back into the Championship has to be the aim.

"I still had another year left on my deal at Sheffield United and I definitely wasn't forced out of the club."
