Winger stays at St Mary's, Viafara's future uncertain
Southampton winger Nathan Dyer has ended speculation about his future by signing a new three-year contract with the club.
The former England Under-19 international has now returned to full training with the first-team after being exiled while his situation was resolved.
But the 20-year-old is under no illusions about the task ahead as he tries to force his way into boss Jan Poortvliet's first-team plans.
"I am delighted to have got it all resolved and to have signed," Dyer told the club's official website. "I never wanted to leave the club, it was just a question of getting it all settled.
Target
"Now I have to try and win back my place because Bradley Wright-Phillips has been playing well on the right and scoring goals and Lee Holmes looks a very good player.
"It will not be easy to force my way back in but I will be working hard in training and in games to try and force my way back in."
Meanwhile,Poortvliet will hold emergency talks with Jhon Viafara in an attempt to resolve the midfielder's future.
The Colombia international reported back late to pre-season and was substituted less than half-an-hour into a 3-2 win at Weymouth on Tuesday night.
Former club Once Caldas are believed to be keen on signing Viafara and Poortvliet is set to talk with the player to discuss his future.
Poortvliet believes the 29-year-old is missing his family and the pair will meet on Wednesday to discuss the player's future.
"I will be sitting down with Jhon because things like that you cannot let go," he told the club's official website.
Problems
"I want to know the problems, because then we can make a decision.
"I saw his warm-up and I was not happy with it. I took him off because I think that he made some big mistakes, he gave the penalty away and he lacked concentration.
"I spoke to Jhon last Saturday and I think the big problem with him is that he is missing his family and he is having a sad time here."
