Shiels keen to give former Celtic man a chance

Kilmarnock have taken former Celtic striker Ben Hutchinson on trial following his release from Parkhead.

The 23-year-old has linked up with Kilmarnock for their three-game tour of Northern Ireland this week.

Killie boss Kenny Shiels will cast an eye over him during their friendly games as he weighs up offering the former Middlesbrough youngster a deal at Rugby Park.

"I'm looking forward to working with Ben. I believe he has something to offer," Shiels told the Daily Record.

"We are trying to build up his fitness and get the best out of him. He has the potential.

"He will get the chance to show what he can do during the three games and there may also be another trialist joining us later in the week."

Shiels also revealed he snubbed the chance to take former Portsmouth striker Vincent Pericard on trial.

He added: "Pericard's name was put to me but I didn't take it any further."
