Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to leave Lyon this summer and sign for Atletico Madrid, subject to the Spanish club's transfer ban being lifted.
Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed a verbal arrangement has been reached for the prolific 25-year-old striker move to La Liga.
FIFA has banned Atletico from signing players after they were found guilty of breaking international transfer rules for U16s.
Atletico have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and a decision is expected this month.
Lacazette has been one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe over the past 12 months, scoring another 36 goals this season to add to his previous 83 for Lyon.
West Ham tried and failed to sign him with a club record £43m offer last summer, and Lyon also rejected a £29m bid from Arsenal last July.
Lacazette, who is a France international with 10 caps, scored twice in his final game for Lyon on Saturday night; a 3-3 draw with Nice.
