Newcastle defenders Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett will be out of action for a 'number of weeks' after the pair were injured in the Premier League opener to Tottenham on Sunday.

Lejeune, a French summer signing from Spanish club Eibar, was forced off after suffering ankle ligament damage in a challenge by England striker Harry Kane, who was booked for the incident.

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez will also be without youth product Dummett after the 25-year-old, who started the Premier League defeat at St. James' Park, limped off with a hamstring injury after just seven minutes.

Assessments by the club's medical staff are continuing in order to establish the full extent of their injuries but both players are 'expected to be out for weeks, rather than months'.
