European sides can't strengthen their squads until January, but that doesn't stop deals from being struck and contracts being agreed ahead of the winter transfer window opening.

Spain

Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler has emerged as a Manchester United target. The 20-year-old signed a new deal with the La Liga club in May until June 2021, with a buyout clause of €80m (£71.2m). United would not be willing to trigger that clause, but are said to be interested in making a bid of around £30m for a player who made his professional debut less than a year ago. (Marca)

Real Madrid were the big winners at FIFA's The Best awards on Monday night. Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned Male Player of the Year for the second year in a row ahead of Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar. Real Sociedad boss Eusebio Sacristan has said that interest in Alvaro Odriozola is 'inevitable' given his impressive form. The 21-year-old right-back made his debut for the Spain national team recently and has become a Real Madrid and Barcelona target. "It is inevitable that there are teams who will look at him and be interested," Eusebio said. (Marca)

Italy

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has refused to rule out a move for Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho. The La Liga side chased the Brazilian playmaker all summer and, although they signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, they are expected to return with a bid in January. "Coutinho? If we do sign some players in the future," Valverde said. "I would like it to be done quietly. We do not want it to be everywhere in the media like last summer." (Calciomercato)

Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte insists that he does not fear the sack at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are fourth in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Manchester City after an indifferent start which has seen them lose three times.

However, Conte - who led Chelsea to the league title in May - is not fretting over his future. "I understand that the club has to evaluate my performances but sincerely I am not worried about getting sacked if I lose a game for example," he said. (Calciomercato)

Bayern Munich turned down the chance to sign Naby Keita after expressing doubts over his ability to thrive at the club. Keita has established himself as one of the Bundesliga's finest midfielders after an outstanding season last year with RB Leipzig. France

Former Crystal Palace goalkeeper Steve Mandanda has been named the Ligue 1 player of the month for September. The Marseille stopper pipped Manchester United target Malcom of Bordeaux, Neymar and Monaco's Radamel Falcao to the award. (L'Equipe)

Turkey

Wolfsburg have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Newcastle and Crystal Palace target Cenk Tosun. The 26-year-old Besiktas striker is hot property after scoring 20 goals in 33 league appearances last season, with the Premier League duo among those heavily linked. (Sporx)

Holland

Everton players messaged Ronald Koeman to thank the coach following his dismissal at Goodison Park on Monday. The Dutchman was sacked following a poor run of form that leaves the Toffees in the relegation zone.
