Sofiane Boufal will have a medical at Southampton on Sunday ahead of becoming the club's record signing, according to Sky sources.
The Saints agreed a fee of £21m last week for the Lille forward, which would top the £15m they paid for Dani Osvaldo in October 2013.
A 22-year-old Moroccan international, Boufal impressed for Lille last season by scoring 11 times and adding five assists.
He picked up a knee injury in May but is expected to be able to return to action in September.
Southampton have lost forwards Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle over the summer, although they managed to bring in Nathan Redmond from Norwich.
And, following Saturday's 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland, the Saints are still awaiting their first Premier League win under new boss Claude Puel, although they have drawn two of their opening three fixtures.
