European Paper Talk: Carlos Vela to Barcelona?

The transfer window shuts in less than two weeks and clubs across Europe are working hard to complete deals.

It means the rumour mill continues to turn at pace, so we asked our friends at Football Whispers to round up all the latest news and gossip from the continent.

Spain

Barcelona have spent January searching for a striker and, with a move for Chelsea's Alvaro Morata now unlikely, the La Liga leaders are considering Carlos Vela. The Mexican, who plays for Los Angeles FC, has been offered to the club and could return to Spain this month. (Marca)

Real Madrid will launch a bid to sign Eder Militao from Porto but the centre-back is also a Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea target. The 20-year-old currently has a £45m release clause in his contract but that rises to 66m in the summer. (AS)

Frenkie de Jong appears set for Paris Saint-Germain but Barcelona will make one final bid to bring him to the Camp Nou. The club will not offer the same financial package as the Ligue 1 leaders but hope the lure of playing with Lionel Messi, and the history of Dutch players shining at Barca, will convince him to sign. Should Real miss out on Militao, they remain interest in Mario Hermoso. The Spain international left the Bernabeu in 2017 but the club have a buy-back option and can sign the Espanyol centre-back for £6.6m. (AS)

Italy

Tottenham are set to turn to Giuseppe Rossi to ease their striker crisis. The Italian has been training with Manchester United and Spurs are considering offering him a pay-as-you-play deal. (Tuttosport)

Milan will launch a formal move for Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek once Higuain departs. The Rossoneri will pay around £13m to take the Pole on loan for the remainder of the campaign before signing him for £22m in the summer. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Inter will offer Manchester United target Milan Skriniar a new contract in the coming days. The centre-back has been targeted by a number of top European sides but will be offered around £3m per year to stay at San Siro. (Calciomercato)

Gonzalo Higuain is set to undergo a medical in London on Friday before signing on loan with Chelsea. The Blues have until 12pm to complete the deal if the Argentine is to face Arsenal tomorrow. (Corriere dello Sport)

France

Watford have disrupted Paris Saint-Germain's transfer window with their valuation of Abdoulaye Doucoure. PSG want to sign Idrissa Gueye from Everton, who in turn want Doucoure as his replacement. But the Toffees are not willing to meet the Hornets' £45m price tag for the midfielder. (France Football)

Former Stoke City loanee Jese has turned down an offer to join Real Valladolid. The Spaniard is free to leave PSG this month if he can find a club. (RMC)

Manchester United will sign Noam Emeran from Amiens SC. The 16-year-old was also a PSG and Juventus target but will move to Old Trafford for around £80,000. (Le Courrier Picard)

Stuttgart CEO Michael Reschke has dismissed reports that the club have already agreed a future deal with Bayern Munich for new signing Ozan Kabak. "We refer it totally to the realm of fables that there are any pre-agreements with other clubs at Ozan Kabak. The player belongs to the VfB. No other club is involved." (Bild)

RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick says a deal for Hakan Calhanoglu is financially impossible. "We already knew his price, so it's absolutely not possible for us to make a move from a financial standpoint." (Sport Bild)
