Daniel Sturridge has vowed to "give everything" every time Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp calls upon his services.

After scoring 21 goals alongside Luis Suarez in 2013/14, Sturridge suffered a torrid three years of injuries at Anfield, prompting Klopp to send him on loan to West Brom for the second half of last season.

The 29-year-old failed to find the net at the Hawthorns, but he returned to Anfield in the summer and after an impressive pre-season, has four goals this campaign, including two goals in 25 minutes of Premier League playing time.

That form has prompted some calls for him to earn a place in Gareth Southgate's next England squad, but, with Liverpool taking on Manchester City at Anfield this weekend, live on Super Sunday, Sturridge is focused on continuing his promising start to the season at his club.

"Whatever decisions the manager makes, he's the boss," he told the club's website. "Whatever team he picks, you just give your best whether you come on for five minutes or start the game. It's just about giving everything on the pitch whenever you get the minutes.

"Failures make you a winner, because you learn from the failure and you improve mentally from it; you improve in every way, personality-wise and character-wise."

Klopp has evolved Sturridge's role and the striker, who has notched 67 goals in 140 matches for Liverpool, explained how his position from No 9 has changed.

"The position I'm playing now isn't the old position I was playing. In the past, I've been a No 9 making runs behind, whereas now it's more a No 10 than it was," he said.

"You're probably a little bit deeper and working hard. The runs you probably would have made in behind you are now doing in the midfield area, getting on the ball and things like that.

"We have wingers who make the runs in behind and they act as second strikers in effect. Your role is just different but I enjoy it. I've always felt I could play a position like that."
