Gareth Southgate will make a late check on Joe Gomez's Achilles injury before naming his England squad ahead of next Thursday's clash with the USA at Wembley.

Gomez came on as a half-time substitute in Liverpool's 2-0 defeat at Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.

Southgate is expected to keep faith with the majority of players he called up for last month's games in Croatia and Spain.

Borussia Dortmund's 18-year-old winger Jadon Sancho is expected to keep his place in the squad after an impressive second-half substitute performance against Croatia.

Manchester United's Jesse Lingard, Liverpool's Adam Lallana and Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek are all fit and available for selection again.

England scouts have been watching Arsenal's 18-year-old forward Reiss Nelson, on loan at Hoffenheim, who has scored five in six games in the Bundesliga this season.

England assistant manager Steve Holland went to watch Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson on Saturday.

Southgate was at the Everton vs Brighton game on Saturday to watch Michael Keane and Lewis Dunk and was also at the Etihad to witness Manchester City's demolition of Southampton on Sunday.

Wayne Rooney will be added as the extra man to the squad with the DC United forward set for a cameo appearance against the USA.
