Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Mathieu Debuchy has been left "destroyed" by his latest injury setback.

The defender, who was sidelined for three months earlier this season with an ankle problem, is facing another long spell out after suffering a dislocated shoulder.

He (Debuchy) is such a keen player, so professional and so willing. It is his first year here and of course he is embarrassed. But it is not his fault.

And Wenger revealed Debuchy, who has started only nine Premier League games since joining from Newcastle in the summer, feels embarrassed after his latest setback.

"He is destroyed," Wenger said. "He is such a keen player, so professional and so willing. It is his first year here and of course he is embarrassed. But it is not his fault.”

Debuchy was carried off on a stretcher during Arsenal's 3-0 win over Stoke last Sunday after being pushed into the advertising hoardings by Marko Arnautovic.

"The push was not needed," Wenger said. "It was a bit unlucky as well because there was a divot after the touchline which may have made it worse.

"Arnautovic did not have a chance to get the ball - I don't think it was malicious but he had no chance to get the ball so I'm saying it was not needed.

"It's not obvious what his intention was, I don't think he wanted to hurt him but I don't think it was needed."

Arsenal will also be without midfielder Mikel Arteta for three months after the Spaniard underwent surgery earlier this week to cure a long-standing ankle problem.

Wenger also confirmed Danny Welbeck is still a fortnight away from returning as the striker continues to recover from a thigh strain suffered during the 2-1 win over West Ham on December 28.

But Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil are all available for Arsenal's Super Sunday visit to Manchester City, live and exclusive on Sky Sports 1 HD.
