Udinese have given Reading midfielder Liam Kelly a potential escape route by offering a deal to take him on loan for the rest of the season, Sky Sports News understands.
The 23-year-old academy product appears surplus to requirements at the Madjeski Stadium and has failed to make new head coach Jose Gomes' last two match-day squads.
His last appearance came in the 2-0 defeat away to Manchester United on January 5 in the FA Cup.
Six players have already left the club this window with Marc McNulty, Vito Mannone and David Meyler also likely to leave before Thursday's 11pm deadline.
Reading have also brought in new faces during the winter window. They have signed both Lewis Baker and Matt Miazga on loan from Chelsea.
The Championship club have completed the loan signings of Norwich striker Nelson Oliveira, Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria.
Reading are in the bottom three after one win from their last 12 league games.
